The identity of V is always a closely guarded secret.
There are those who have suggested that V is in fact a committee of civil servants and not an actual person. The Venerian authorities have made never commented on this assertion as they always refuse to either confirm or deny V's existence.

The Venerian intelligence services are generally regarded as the second most effective in the Universe, and V is also suspected to be exceptionally influential in high level Venerian decision-making well beyond their role as a mere security advisor to government.

Conspiracy theorists across all polities are always implicating V in anything and everything even faintly mysterious, from the disappearance of President Heinlein to the surrender of the Roach forces.
