!Van Husen One of [The Twelve] Families of the Solar Republic. The Van Husens are an old and declining Tier Three family from whom two [First Citizen]s were selected during the late 29th and early 30th centuries. The Van Husens led Earth through the Gustav Tragedy, the Great Secessionist War and the Earth-Mars War. The Van Husen name has thus been associated with disasters for many years and has never fully recovered. Despite this the Van Husens retain a significant degree of political influence and have been rivals of the [Smythe]s over the question of which family is respected the least. The Van Husens rarely seem to have suitable candidates for The [First Citizen] or [First Minister] but rely instead on acting as a power broker to influence other families to support their policies and retain of a position in the Twelve. The Van Husens have strong historical ties to the Admiralty and the Home Office and have recently thrown a lot of support behind the [Zhang] and [Armstrong] "Earth First" policy.
