Van Husen

One of The Twelve Families of the Solar Republic.

The Van Husens are an old and declining Tier Three family from whom two First Citizens were selected during the late 29th and early 30th centuries.

The Van Husens led Earth through the Gustav Tragedy, the Great Secessionist War and the Earth-Mars War. The Van Husen name has thus been associated with disasters for many years and has never fully recovered. Despite this the Van Husens retain a significant degree of political influence and have been rivals of the Smythes over the question of which family is respected the least.

The Van Husens rarely seem to have suitable candidates for The First Citizen or First Minister but rely instead on acting as a power broker to influence other families to support their policies and retain of a position in the Twelve.

The Van Husens have strong historical ties to the Admiralty and the Home Office and have recently thrown a lot of support behind the Zhang and Armstrong "Earth First" policy.
