W2
Independent colony world in Quadrant 7
Overview
W2 is a sparsely populated independent world in Quadrant 7, known for its harsh environment and subsistence-level economy. Originally settled with corporate investment, the planet has struggled to develop beyond basic resource extraction and localized trade. Despite its economic hardships, W2 remains independent, with its colonial groups maintaining a degree of self-governance.
Colonial Groups
New Desert of the North *(Limited Democracy)* – Initially funded by Interstellar Spaceball League Inc, this colony was originally intended to serve as a sporting retreat and training facility. However, with limited infrastructure and a struggling economy, it has shifted towards local resource management and minor trade with passing vessels.
The colony is led by Governor Elias Montoya, a former sports executive who transitioned into colonial leadership after the failure of W2's original sports tourism venture. Montoya is known for his pragmatic approach to governance, advocating for sustainable resource use and seeking off-world partnerships to improve the colony's prospects.
Red Prospect Community *(Corporate Oligarchy)* – Founded by Phokon Teryll, this faction controls most of W2’s mineral extraction operations. With limited off-world trade, it remains highly insular, focusing on survival rather than expansion.
The colony is led by Director Sienna Varkas, a shrewd business leader with deep connections to Phokon Teryll, Varkas runs the colony with an iron grip. She prioritises efficiency and profitability but has been criticized for ignoring worker concerns and maintaining strict control over trade negotiations.
Original Hat Confederation *(Corporate Oligarchy)* – Backed by Advanced Industrial Mechanics, this colony initially aimed to establish industrial production, but economic struggles forced a shift toward basic manufacturing and repair services for local industries.
The colony is led by Chairman Harun Kadesh, once a mid-level executive in Advanced Industrial Mechanics, Kadesh was sent to W2 to oversee operations but has since established himself as the de facto leader of the colony. He is known for his rigid policies and focus on keeping the colony financially viable despite its economic struggles.
Religion & Culture
The two dominant religions on W2 are Buddhism and the Way of Enlightened Humanity, both of which have shaped the planet’s resilient and community-focused culture. Despite political and economic hardships, W2’s colonists are known for their adaptability and strong communal ties.
Recent Developments
W2 remains largely disconnected from major interstellar trade routes, relying on self-sufficiency and occasional trade with independent traders. There are rumors that certain factions may be seeking external investment or alliances to improve their economic prospects.
