!Genesplice Genesplice is an apparent Forerunner designation for various bioengineered species. According to conversations with the Forerunner AI 'Majordomo' conducted at Woods Asteroid, Tuskan in 3198 by Professor Catherine Peabody of the Imperial Archaeological Institute, the list of genesplice designations are as follows: Genesplices 1, 4, 5 and 6 were all insectoid. Number 1 was a large cockroach-like creature classed as an early experiment. The other three were attempts to produce a sentient hive mind. Genesplice 2 was a large dinosaur-like creature, like a tyrannosaur, which was also apparently sentient. Genesplice 3 was a silicon-based species classed as pure research. Genesplice 7 seems to have been either a dolphin or a creature indistinguishable from one. Genesplices 8 through 13 were all basically humanoid, but with great differences: Genesplices 10, 11 and 12 all looked like early hominids, supporting Majordomo's contention that humans are 'evolved Genesplice 12s'. Earth seems to have been something of an important research test-bed for Forerunner engineered species. Genesplices 8 and 9 were terrifying creatures covered with fangs, claws, armour and so forth, which were apparently developed as combat creatures. Genesplice 13 (the only one above 12 which Majordomo was prepared to discuss) was apparently a non-government sanctioned project whose purpose was not revealed. Around 7' tall, its mouth has multiple mandibles. Skin is mottled and vaguely reptillian. --------- Further information on Genesplice 9s: These are a species of Forerunner genetically designed bioweapon, characterised by extreme aggressiveness and rapid reproduction. These creatures are very durable and capable of operating in a fantasically wide range of hostile environments, including periods of hard vacuum and extremes of temperature and pressure. GS9s are highly aggressive and their parasitic lifecycle makes them extremely dangerous in any populated environment. They are not regarded as sentient. They appear to be located at some former Forerunner base sites, stored in stasis in large numbers (up to 10,000 at a time). Caches have been found in the Tuskan, Roopy and Penni systems in Quadrant 7. Anyone encountering them is encouraged to take off and nuke the whole site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure. It is now believed that the destruction of the Martian colony of M'Drid (Q7) was due to an escaped cache of Genesplice 9s. Martian Marines made the first recorded contact with the previously postulated 'Queen' morph at MYSTERY early in 3212. The individual appeared to be in deep hibernation but rapidly returned to full operation once disturbed. Using a remotely controlled TRUC unit the marines, through the destruction of GS9 eggs laid nearby, demonstrated learning in the creature but not true intelligence. The individual was destroyed by concentrated SCA and APGW fire at the end of the experiment. Artist's impression based on recent sightings. [Image10.gif]
