Warsims Research Group: Warstar Battlestation. A proposed design from the 2900s for a vast mobile fortress the size of a small moon, with unimaginable power and weaponry. The design was also unimaginably expensive to build and maintain, and of only limited use. Regarded as much too vulnerable and not at all cost-effective - these were never built. Weapons Company : Ground force supporting heavy weapons. Less mobile than the Ground Company, but more firepower. This is in the form of standoff precison guided weapons, and guided artillery. Wild Card Virus. An artificially engineered virus designed to fundamentally alter the genetic structure of living subjects. Developed by the criminal scientist, Johannes Schmdit, this was released into the atmosphere on Organia III in 3174. It caused millions of deaths, and the resulting distaster was known as the Organian Atrocity. Schimdt and his accomplices were never caught (though they were later reportedly implicated in the Great Over AI Scandal of 3199, and Schmidt was reported as missing, believed killed in the subsequent fighting). Wing. Independent world in Quadrant Zero. Wing is a barely colonised world, with very little to recommend it - were it not for the major factories in orbit. The Hyperspace Technologies Corporation owns most of those parts of Wing that are colonised, and basically keeps the colony going. HTC gains considerable benefits from the independence that Wing provides, and is undoubtedly the main reason why Wing is a founder member of the League of Non-Aligned Worlds. Wirepod: A specialised defensive device that blocks ship's corridors with monofilment razor wire. William Savory. Famous fictional detective, the creation of the Martian novelist Lousie Appleton. There are over 30 WIlliam Savory stories and 12 of them have been made into major tri-v movies. Wolf359 Commonwealth: Wolfers' political system is based on a consitutional monarchy under King Stabilo II (originally a distant offshoot of the old Earther Imperial family), the Wolfers are very keen on tradition and formality. They control few stars, and their economy is fairly weak, but despite that they have small but efficient military forces. Wolfer Official Website Woodies. Slang term of abuse for citizens of the Mald Democratic Foundation - maily used in the Venerian Republic. its origin is obscure, but then so is the Venerian sense of humour. On the whole Maldenites have little time for such frivolity and ignore insults. Wood's Asteroid. The site of a rare archeological find. Located in the Tuskan system in Quadrant 7, it is alleged that this asteroid was a functioning forerunner base containing a fully functioning ancient forerunner intelligence. It was inadvertently destroyed by nuclear weapons during the first battle of Tuskan around stardate 3200.352.
