Ultra:  ex-Sirian Colony world in Quadrant 7, destroyed in the First Exterminator War. system map

Ultracricket. A complex team sport placed in a large arena between two heavily armoured teams. The average Ultracricket match lasts ten days or more, and usually involves serious casualties. For a fuller, and yet accessible treatment fo the rules and history of the game, see the popular semi-biographical work "Take That You Bastards", by Ceri McNasty, former Captain of the Wolfer Interstellar Team

ULTRON. A tactical computer optimised for tracking, predicting and intercepting pirate activity. This has only been in service for a few months, and only in Quadrant 3, but it is shown considerable success. Manufactured by Pymm Industries of Claymore - there is now some doubt as to it's origins and a number of polities have recently withdrawn it from service.

Union of Xyon ('Zyonists' or 'Xyonists'):  The Union of Xyon was orignally formed several centuries ago from a coaltion of religious fundamentalists from old earth and a strong breakaway belter miner faction. Its original religious focus has now long since vanished. This relitively small but fiercly independent grouping has always had its own traditions and ways of doing things, drawing on rugged self-sufficiency and independence of thought inherited from it's founders.

UNIT. United National Investigation Team. Originally formed in Quadrant 7 under the Treaty of Potomax - this is one of the lead organisations studying the Exterminator threat and their technology. logo

Universe 'B'  A theoretical alternative universe, that might offer the possibility of vastly improved interstellar transit speeds through a new transdimensional space.  The physical laws of Universe B would be vastly different to those of our Universe - though it might even, possibly, be inhabited by unknown types of life.

Unmapped Stars. Stars not shown on operational star maps because they lack useful planets. See entry for Empty Space.

Unos:  Esteeler colony in Quadrant 3

USO. Unidentified Space Object. A general term to describe any unidentified non-natural object in space. In the popular imagination this often includes fantasic starships inhabited by grey aliens or lizardmen. The reality is that virtually all reports of USO have a perfectly rational explanation.
