GFA (Esteeler) Economy and Trade in Quadrant Seven

Introduction

The Esteelers suffered grievously from the Berserker attacks of 3197, losing six entire systems and over fifty million dead, along with entire ecosystems which may be impossible to re-create. Trade and the local economy was severely disrupted, and just a year later the priority remains military materiel and supply. Politically and economically, however, the Quadrant must continue to send trade goods to the Home Worlds to justify the military investment of GFA interstellar forces in Quadrant Seven. Hard work and inspired leadership have seen Gross Quadrant Product rising towards 95% of 3196 levels, although over six percent of the population was killed in 3197, and eight percent of the Quadrant's productive economy was destroyed.

Potomax - the capital world 632093

Very successful economy proving high-technology and services of all kinds to the predominantly agricultural worlds of the Quadrant, and as a centre for trade and contact with the Home Worlds. The system also contains the administrative centre, military headquarters, and major interstellar-ship repair yards for the Quadrant. Potomax has a thriving cultural life and is a planet of outstanding natural beauty and architectural interest. The system has attracted tourists from far afield although this has reduced since the War began .

Big Greenie 634103

Successful exotic world, diverse biosphere including vast tropical jungles.  High-quality food production includes 'satty spices', used in luxury foods and to flavour coffee and wines. Planet has large-scale tourist facilities for safaris, sightseeing and hunting. Notoriously, very ethically relaxed.

Big Red 633099

Thriving world with rapidly-growing population. Exports are based on high-quality gemstones and the heartwood of ancient trees which give 'kala wood', used in woodcarving, furniture and as a source of hypercomplex polycyclics used in perfumes and pharmaceuticals. Strong local religious tradition is weakening with immigration.

Blue Rok 622096

Less successful colony with weak economy. Exports 'rokworm' juice, an extract of a local giant nematode used in pharmaceuticals manufacture.

Glace 627098

Icy world with small economy based on abundant petrochemicals and gemstones, and main export is fur of the agumigot, a local carnivore, a pelt much prized for its beauty and warmth.

L'Fayet 638097

Moderately well-off worlds based on unusual ecology producing a range of useful drugs, notably antibiotics and behaviour inhibitors. People work on the moons of a local gas giant to produce metals for the economy. Military tradition.

Matanzas 647074

Successful economy based on ranching and livestock-rearing in equatorial zones, producing meat of unsurpassed quality, some of which is exported. The planet also produces a famous range of liquors.

Mesa 625091

Penal colony closed to unauthorised vessels. Unpleasant ecology and lifestyle, sole export a local mineral (sand-47) used in orthopaedic surgery and bone reconstruction.

Pawnee 633089

Oceanic world of archipelagoes with economy based on fishing and farming many lagoon-based plants and animals. Successful exports include the much-prized lingpo crimson, dye from a native fish, and several other local foods and animal skins.

Sandron 633083

Struggling economy based on export of diadem-silk, a fibre produced by a native arachnid. Some sales of locally-produced entertainment software, which has a cult following and generates tourism based on planet's promotion of itself as centre for adventure and spiritual self-fulfilment. Strong local religious tradition.

Savannah 625085

Local bone-carving exports in decline. This system is attempting to break the monopoly held by Potomax in the provision of high-technology services to other systems in the Quadrant and has been successful so far. Local agriculture has been transformed into a showcase of efficiency and the system specialises in repair and reconditioning of technology from a robot to an interstellar vessel, often sending out teams of specialist troubleshooters.
