SERENITY STATION
HUNTER’S BRIEFING

First, under no circumstances must you reveal the nature of your role to anyone outside your team. Surprise is probably your only real edge, so don’t blow it.

 Introduction

You are a member of a secretive and special species known as the Vl’hurg, which roughly translated means ‘Hunters’.

Your entire culture and being is based around prowess in hunting. There are certain rules and social norms that go with this, which are treated as virtually unbreakable rules.

1. The Hunt Is Everything.

The main reason for existence is to hunt. This is a genetic imperative of your species.

 2. Only a Challenge Counts. Unless the hunt is taxing and stretches your abilities as a hunter it doesn’t count.

3. Get Ahead - Take Heads.

Any prey that is worth taking is worth taking a trophy from.

In most cases this means taking a head (or other significant appendage). The hunter with the most heads at the end of the hunt is the winner and gets to breed with the female of his choice.

You are aware of humans and many other species. The humans have, on certain occasions, been worthy of a hunt - they are a heavily armed and aggressive species. However, it has been necessary to keep the existence of our species a secret from the humans who are much more numerous than us, and have a strangely genocidal streak. Discovery could mean the destruction of our entire species.

Technology

In many respects Vl’Hurg technology is in advance of human technology, and particularly in the field of personal equipment and hunting equipment. Ship technology and ship to ship weapons have not been highly developed, since there is nothing you can hunt with a ship weapon.

Personal Camouflage Field

This warps light and other EMF radiation around the wearer and makes them nearly invisible. As very close range they can be sort of seen, but then only if you’re looking for them.

Slasher Knives

These adamantium-vibranium alloy blades are attached to the combat glove, and can cut through almost anything. Definitely useful in hand to hand combat.

Striking Spear. Similar material to the Slasher Knives, but with that extra reach needed against some enemies.

Directed Energy Weapon. A highly accurate energy weapon with built-in targeting and guidance. Basically the same as an SCA2.

Special Rules

The normal rules for Starship Marine Streamline will apply, with certain exceptions and alterations:

You move at the same speed as Armoured Marines

You count as Marines in Hand to Hand Combat PLUS if using the Striking Spear you get a +1 in hand to hand vs gg’gvnt only (it has no bonus against human Marines/Crewmen though)

You count as an Armoured Target

The Personal Camouflage Field provides total protection from detection at distances of over 5".

Under 5" and a Marine (only) might detect if he rolls a 5 or 6 on 1d6.

If under fire speculatively (the umpires will rule when you are a possible target), the firer is firing on a -3 on the die score.

Damage:

You are very resistant to damage, and so must roll 1d6 when hit:

4-6 Just a flesh wound - fight on
2-3 A rather painful wound - half movement and -1 on die rolls
1 Personal Camouflage Field damaged - it doesn’t work any more.

You can take loads of flesh wounds without too much worry. You can only take 3 Painful Wounds before you fall over from shock/loss of blood etc.

 The Prey

Over the centuries, your species has encountered hundreds of thousands of challenging prey species. Humans are interesting, but rather dangerous and unpredictable (for the reasons explained above). One species that has stood head and shoulders above the others has been the Gg’gvnt. A sort of interstellar parasitic monster, the gg’gvnt adults are large, fast and deadly, and breed very fast.

The Vl’hrg have taken to capturing Gg’gvnt Breeders and found their own colonies of these dangerous predators for hunting purposes. The life cycle and motivation of gg’gvnt are very well known to you (and hence you have been given a copy of the species briefing for the gg’gnvt for information).

The Serenity Station Hunt

You are members of a Hunting Lodge called the Climbing Lodge With Gallantry (Lodges are the main social groupings in your culture). CLWG has thought up a really challenging hunt, and you, as the two Top Hunters of the Lodge, have the honour of trying it out.

The deal is that two gg’gvnt breeder colonies have established themselves (with our help) on a human research station. The humans, who have little or no previous contact with this species will undoubtedly respond with extreme violence, and you will be able to hunt both gg’gvnt and humans in the middle of a fight to the finish between those two dangerous species.

Its what you like to call "a prey-rich environment."
