3207.025 IFU
and hired personnel arrive Insider III
3207.035 Buck and Silverado make purchase recommendations to Insider
III
government [OOC: decided at previous session].
Training teams assembled as per Frank's previous email, selection begins
for advanced courses, facilities put together for Basic course, local
instructors selected and trained up.
3207.075 Training programme begins fully. First equipment and stores
begin to
arrive (mostly light vehicles, engineering equipment etc). Construction
of
defensive works begins at Arushage and Hussagen.
3207.185 Main weapon shipment assembled at Knobknocker (courtesy
of Three
Worlds Alliance).
3207.210 Merchant ship and escorts arrive at Insider system. DKK
naval forces
move to intercept 'decoy' convoy.
3207.219 Merchant ship SS Stobart's Bane arrives in orbit at Insider
III.
Unloading begins.
3207.220 Satellites launched from Stobart's Bane detect large-scale
enemy
movement towards Advanced Mining Colony 8. Up to five Armoured/Mechanised
brigades seem to be involved.
AMC8 Administrator Palinka Blue and Colonel Ron Bacardi (local civilian
and
military chiefs respectively) call an emergency meeting with IFU Directors.
It
seems that the arrival of the main shipment has triggered the long-feared
attack by the New Farringdon Colony. Although IFU has been contracted
primarily
for a training mission, AMC8 recognises its lack of military experience,
and
wishes to change the terms of IFU's contract to cover supervising military
operations against New Farringdon and active military participation in
the
defence of AMC8. AMC8 will give the local equivalent of Colonel rank to
all IFU
Directors, Major rank to all permanent IFU staff, and Captain rank to
all other
IFU personnel.
Tony manages to negotiate a tripling of IFU's contract pay for the duration
of the contract (4 more octants, bringing total money received to a potential
2.7m credits). He also insists on a bonus for local troops of 300,000
credits,
to be shared out among them. The new contract is agreed.

It is quickly determined that Arushage is the key defensive position,
as a
major transport hub, and the likely initial target of the New Farringdon
attack. Gillian Sameria drafts a defensive plan for Arushage. The Central
Response Force is also sent from AMC8 to Arushage to stiffen defences
there.
Arushage is currently under local command - Major Ronson, who is the commander
of the Central Reponse Force.
Bennie Parker is tasked with examining options for recon and possibly
slowing
down the armoured advance before it reaches Arushage.
3207.221
DKK naval forces arrive back in Insider III orbit. They open fire on SS
Stobart's Bane, causing some damage, and the captain makes a heroic forced
landing as close as he can to the AMC8 colony. Unfortunately the vagaries
of
gravity and trajectories are such that planetfall is at 6.38pm local time,
around 1,000 km SW of AMC8, in a forest area close to the city of Hakuna
Matata
in the No Worries Here colony. Fortunately the NWH are Martians who broadly
support AMC8 (though not to the extent of offering military support).
Unfortunately the site is also only about 1,000km away from the main
concentration of enemy forces, and it seems likely they will also make
some
attempt to capture it.
A scratch force is immediately put together using what resources are
available,
under the command of Tony Silverado, with Leon MacDuff as 2 I/C, to secure
the
landing site and equipment. IFU forces total 30 directors and personnel,
all in
HMA. A further 190 local forces in LTA are also ferried in using armed
shuttles
and some flyers. No Worries Here agrees to provide refuelling facilities
for
the fliers, which cannot make the trip on a single tank of fuel. The force
carries 3 days of rations and some heavy weapons.
Within hours the expeditionary force has reached the landing site and
set up a
perimeter. The ship has come to rest on its side, and its metal cargo
frame has
partially collapsed under the stress of landing, crushing a number of
pods. Its
fusion drive has cleared foliage for several hundred metres (and indeed
several
kilometers in the direction of landing). Captain Hubbard and his crew
are
unhurt, and a little put out at the Three Worlds Alliance naval and marine
personnel aboard which forced him to land.
The Three Worlds personnel are returned to AMC8 with some of the shuttles.
Tony
keeps 2 shuttles at the landing site to act as a communications centre
and HQ
and to move troops around if need be. MacDuff supervises allocating patrols
to
the surrounding area - the ship is in a large drainage basin with a ridgeline
in a circle around the site about 5km distant. The enemy approach is likely
to
be from flatter, more open ground to the north where the river exits the
terrain feature.
During the night AMC8 negotiates with Now Worries Here for the loan of
transport fliers and heavy lifting gear to be able to unload the ship
in situ.
A survey of the cargo is made and priorities identified. Meanwhile Gillian
Sameria gathers together the ships engineering crew and arranges for a
section
of the ship's drive containing the hyperlinium core to be cut free from
the
ship so that it can be removed and recovered once lifting gear arrives.
The two satellites are recovered by opposition naval forces during the
night
and satellite surveillance cover is lost.
There is also an air raid on the air base at AMC8 by New Farringdon forces,
but
you manage to scramble a couple of the AIR fighters, and two New Farringdon
aircraft are shot down and the other 4 abort the attack.
3207.222
At local dawn the transport fliers arrive from No Worries Here, and begin
unloading cranes to start removing cargo from the ship.
Bennie Parker is making ready with an 8-person squad in HMA to be dropped
ahead
of the main New Farringdon axis of advance and report on their progress,
preparedness etc.
50 ATGMs + 500 missiles and 20 SAM launchers + 100 missiles are dispatched
to
Arushage by the transport column.
The Advanced Infantry companies in AMC8 are given some emergency training
at
the rifle range with their new SLA2s.
