Orders for Operation Rumble in the Jungle
This was the planetside mission to clear out the pirate bases located in the southern rain forest

Objective: Capture pirate planetside base codenamed MADAGASCAR, kill or capture pirates and free any prisoners or hostages unharmed if possible. If successful, option to move to take BARBARY, 4km away, as well. See Satellite Recon Photo

Operational area:
See planetary map and low-level hotspot map. [Edit - I've had to cut these out of the message as the mailer rejected them, but presumably James can send on the version with the files attached, or you can look back at Jim's previous emails that had them].
The terrain is thick jungle with rough tracks. There is a weather system moving into the area with heavy rain expected.

Opposition:
Both sites are bases for pirates, and possibly also include captured civilian prisoners or hostages. MADAGASCAR is believed to be run by pirates from the SS 'White Knight' under Captain Rita Looney. Numbers are likely to be a maximum of 30-40 combat crew, most likely fewer, and including various ill or otherwise ineffective personnel. Weapons are probably marine armour and SCAs, possibly a mix of light vehicles and autocannons. Looney's crew have a reputation for violence and tenacity among other pirates.
BARBARY has crew from SS 'Psycho' and other ships in the system. Most of these have already been apprehended, and defence may be relatively light. Some of these pirates are also apparently less experienced and motivated. If MADAGASCAR is captured, BARBARY may well surrender without a fight.
However, there is a shuttle landing field at BARBARY and there may be 1 or 2 armed shuttles available.

Forces available:
1 PAC (Damaged)
2 25 Pax Armed Shuttles
31 personnel with HMA
4 SAM Launchers with 20 missiles.
4 ATGW Launchers with 20 missiles.
8 LRGM Launchers with 80 missiles.
2 Mortars with 6 Surveillance Rounds and 100 bombs.
1 Demo Tech's Kit.

[Director Parker to remain on SS Osprey with 6 Marines, 10 combat robots and casualties]

Organisation:
4 squads:
1 x HQ squad, 7 marines, including medical personnel, and all of the Launchers and mortars. These will be carried in shuttle 1.
3 x 8-Marine combat teams, A, B and C, total 24 effectives, carried in shuttle 2.

Mission:
The attack will take place at night, and under cover of the approaching weather system. Exact timing will depend upon the progress of this weather system but is likely to be tonight or tommorrow night.

Shuttles 1 and 2 will land in a previously-identified clearing from SpyEye passes, approximately 3-4 km from MADAGASCAR. Teams A and B will establish a premiter, and Team C and the HQ squad will unload and set up missile launchers and mortars. It is hoped that the weather system may cover the approach of the shuttles and intitial preparation phase.

Once fire support is established, teams A, B and C are to move towards the objective and take position ca 2-300m away. Team A will detach 4 marines to reconnoitre the perimeter of MADAGASCAR and advise on enemy dispositions and strongpoints.

Following completion of the recon, or if the recon team is heavily engaged, teams A, B and C are to assault the objective, suppported by fire from the HQ Firebase. Further details will be dependant on enemy dispositions, but in general the aim is to breach the enemy perimeter at a weak spot, using demo charges and missile support if necessary, and fan out to use the space afforded by the clearing to make best use of the mobility of the HMA and the greater range of SLAs as against that of SCAs.

Air units:
Shuttle 2 is to take off when action is imminent and loiter as long as fuel allows, in support of the Pacifier. The Pacifier is to provide air superiority and additional fire support. The Air group's mission is to ensure that no shuttle is able to deploy from BARBARY, provide suppressing fire to MADAGASCAR assault if targets can be clearly identified (otherwise leave it to GF units - we don't want Blue on Blue casualties) and attack specific targets as indicated by the HQ group. Keep an eye on the trails in particular for vehicle movement and engage any vehicles identified.

In the event of a successful assault on MADAGASCAR and the HQ Group deem it appropriate, all units will follow up to BARBARY and repeat the plan.

In the event of heavy enemy resistance and casualties, Teams should fall back towards HQ Firebase for pickup by shuttles 1 and 2.

Command:
HQ squad: Director Minogue (I/C operation)
Team A: Director MacDuff
Team B: Director May
Team C: Director Smithson
Air Group: Bod O'Brien

In the event of casualties chain of command goes:
Commander HQ Squad -> Cmdr Team A -> Team B -> Team C
