THE BATTLE OF FLYPAPER

3198.112 (or thereabouts)

The background should, by now be familiar.  The Joint Allied Command led combined Esteeler and Martain Fleet into action against the largest concentration of Berserker force yet encountered in the year-long war.  Three Berserker Super Battleships (BSB) were detected in the Flypaper system by the Martian Fleet MIDGARD.

Having removed the Viking unit that the BSBs were using to communicate with the rest of the universe, the Martians sat watching the enemy, waiting for reinforcement.  And, as fast as hyperspace would allow, two Esteeler fleets, FLEET AUDIE MURPHY and FLEET ROGER YOUNG duly appeared on the scene, led by the now-famous Earther Admiral Andrew ('Berserker-Killer') Burwasher.

The total fleets now amounted to some 55 ships and 14,000 personnel.  The combined main attacking force amounted to some 5 Battleships, 24 Carriers, and 2 Heavy Cruisers.

The Admiral's plan was imaginative and bold (see here for details).

With exceptional precision the fleets coordinated their movements and, as predicted, the BSBs moved to engage the Martians, without it seems, fully realising the strength of the forces facing them (or perhaps they did, and didn't care?).

There follows a series of slides showing the main phases of the battle:

The concentration of force on a single BSB in the enemy formation seems to have been successful, although engaging such a formidable foe has had its awful price to pay.  The widespread issing of nuclear missiles to the pacifier squadrons meant that once the enemy had been sufficiently weakened, if was possible to administer a final coup de grace rapidly to prevent further heavy losses.

Aftermath

As the fleets reorganise themselves and sort out the casualties, recover escape pods and treat the wounded, it becomes clear that there is still some unidentified activity on Flypaper IV.........
