Arr... well settle down then me hearty and listen to Israel tell it like
it
happened.
We discovered from our 'friendly' captain Visser that there was a little
job he was plannin' on the orbital station at Saunders - next world along
from the unlamented BonBonPo. He wanted to take delivery of some high
value
crates, and he had arranged for access to a Warehouse next door. We could
expect half a dozen armed guards, since the proprietor was not so legal,
and also had some of the local COPS in his pocket.
Now our problem was like this, see - we had to get the crates out from
the
warehouse and onto our ship, but any alarm would trigger a station
lockdown. Plus if the Material Girl was fingered as the vessel responsible
it would become the target of the Station Pacifiers.
So me and the captain and Ape - with 'is thinkin' head on for a change
-
kicked some ideas around. That Martian brain of his gets goin' now and
again, and he was really firin' on all cylinders. Surprised us all - even
'imself, I think.
The Captain reckoned we needed some distractions and diversions. 'E 'ad
a
clapped out shuttle that he had bought at BonBonPo that he was happy to
get
rid of - the score was going to be THAT big! So we arranged for it to
be
autopiloted, and it would apparently make a getaway after the raid and
head
for a different ship (har har - cause someone no end of trouble!). Of
course, it wouldn't answer hails from the pacifiers and they'd like as
not
shoot it. We put some explosives and some 'organic matter' on board for
a
better simulation. The Captain said not to inquire too closely where the
organic matter came from, but everyone started lookin' a bit nervous at
that point...
Anyway, next problem was what to do with the loot. I reckoned if we stashed
it in Warehouse 52 inside some legit-lookin' crates, provided the cops
had
no reason to connect Warehouse 52 to the raid, they'd never look inside,
so
we could leave the loot there and come back and collect it 'legitmately'
when things had quietened down. I had the cargo-handlin' skill to arrange
good fake crates and documentation.
Next problem was how to tackle the guards. No-one fancied goin' in without
armour, so we would ship it into Warehouse 52 inside our legit crates
and
change into it in there. Trouble was, outside in the corridor were four
security cams. Plan A was that Cpok would hack the Station Maintenance
records and arrange for there to be scheduled maintenance of the cameras
-
to be carried out by him and Sharan. So when the cameras went down the
local pigs would look at their records and say - ah yes - scheduled
maintenance.
Plan B if that failed would be for Cpok to hack the camera feeds direct
and
subvert 'em to a loop that made the corridor look empty.
Plan C was just to dress like vandals and pull the plugs on the cameras.
Next we would head into the target warehouse - with our combat armour
painted up to look like COPS by our resident painter-boy Giles - and any
curious bystanders would be told it was a police raid. That was another
of
my ideas. I figured they'd be less likely to call the cops if they thought
the cops were already there! And no-one phones up asking the police if
they
are currently raiding warehouse 54. And it gave us an excuse for clearin
the corridor and tellin people to stay under cover until it was over.
Plus
the guys inside the warehouse wouldn't want to call the real Police on
account of them havin' so much illegal in there.
Finally, we ditch our armour and change into civvies and blend into the
crowd when the police arrive. Cpok and Sharan and a couple of others would
be the Maintenance crew, Ape and his girl Zak would be a hooker and her
John - we didn't ask which was which - I'd be a docker, and some of the
rest would stay in their COP uniforms and look purposeful and then slip
away in the confusion. Then we'd come back a few hours later once lockdown
ended and pick up the crates and Robert is your mother's brother.
So it all sounded pretty good on paper. We got everything into position
and
away we went.
Cpok of course did his best to foul us up. First he failed to hack the
maintenance computer. Then he failed to hack the cameras. So they ad to
go
for Plan C and yanked the plugs on the cameras. So some Dockside security
came to investigate, so we had to slam the corridor doors on them. Still,
we were committed now, so the assault team went inside - there were two
entrances so we split.
Now here it seemed to go a little pear-shaped like, on account that Zak
"bury me in a Y-shaped coffin" Mahmood had stolen all the combat
robots for
her team, so me an' Ape got a little exposed like and although we cleared
the first room, a couple of guys with SCAs in the second put us both down.
Just suit kills thank Grud, but annoyin' like. Anyway we managed to clear
the rooms in the end - six guys with armour guns as predicted, plus a
few
combat robots, some unarmoured personnel and a SCA III turret in an
armoured safe! Donohue was another suit kill, and we lost all of the robots
(which were Visser's and also deemed expendable anyway) but apart from
that
I think we were all OK.
Now, Cong Li, our resident Murderous Bitch and delectable-lookin' Number
2,
who was notionally in charge of the raid, had pushed the unarmoured guys'
bodies onto the shuttle to help with the 'organic matter' and set the
shuttle goin. So now all we had to do was slip into our disguises.
I can't really say what happened after that cos it all got a bit hazy.
I
had noticed a very interesting crate and was busy shippin' it into our
warehouse at the time...
I'm sure Ape can take up the story from there, though...
