Daring Theft on B-Station
Reports are coming in of a theft of major (and highly vaulable) archeological articles from the Station. This is especially embarrasing because the items concerned were in a secure store in the Station Command Centre. Marine and COP units contue to extensively search the station and a number of suspects have been rounded up for questioning. Starguard units are on maximum alert, and all shipping is being searched before being allowed to leave the system. The Independent Trader's Association has been highly vocal in complaining about the economic effects of this lockdown - but Station Commander Captain Zeta is firm "..I am resolved to hunt down these criminals...no matter how long it takes, or whose toes I tread on..." Captain Zeta remains a controversial figure, after the infamous Corrunna Incident four years ago. The subsequent court martial cleared his name - but the families of those affected still campaign for his imprisonment.

Piracy fears result in stepped up security Starguard units have been unusually active over the last three months due to reports of increased pirate activity in this part of the quadrant. Reports are coming in of a major battle between Xyonist forces and a pirate fleet not 12 parsecs from here. This, coupled with the news of the grand theft from under the noses of the Station authorities, has made security forces all the more jumpy. At least one incoming merchant has been fired on by nervous station defence crews because the Captain was a bit slow in sending traffic control ping-codes. At present, the Big Dog City spaceport is the scene of a major security operation. GF units are patrolling the perimeter and main terminal buildings in the largest military/civil security exercise for 5 years.
Planetary Governor Goldburg's press office made the following statement: "The governor is well aware of the concerns of citizens, and has authorised the current security exercises to increase public confidence. He is sure that the whole population is behind him in working towards a secure and prosperous colony." |
Health Inspector Strike still to go ahead Planetary health inspectors are planning to carry out their forteenth one-week stoppage in their marathon dispute with the Government on working practices. The biggest impact will be on the 'Don farming industry - food processing plants will refuse to take locally slaughtered 'Dons unless the ranch slaughterhouse has an up to date Health certificate. The strike action delays the 3-monthly inspections. Ranchers are up in arms about htis.
A spokesperson for the Ranchers Association, Ms Randy Roughshod (25) said "These M*therf*ckin In-f*ckin-spectors should all be shot. We never needed these f*ckin ball-less desk-jockies back in 'ol grandpappy's day"
The Safety and Health Workers and Allied Trades Union members voted by 99% in favour of continuing strike action after their request for the cost personal body armour worn on duty to be tax-deductable was refused. |

Street Gang Warfare on the rise Concern is being expressed in the City Assembly of Big Dog City about the increasing levels of teenage gang warfare on the streets of the south side of the city especially. Assembler Henks (Independent - Southside) said "Look - I come from this area - right? I know these kids - I've worked with them, right? They're high spirited - true, but give them decent job and amenities and they'll stop shooting each other." Assembler Roughneck (Star - New Trick) "There's only one language these motherless scum understand. Send in the GF, round them up and ship them off for a few years to a frontier 'Don Farm on North Continent - or better yet, a bit of percussive therapy." The Assembly voted in favour of Mayor Fisk's plan to set up a Gang-Related Crime Task force to look into the issue.

MarSec chiefs defy CFSA Censure Marsec yesterday suffered a rebuke from the Colonial Financial Services Agency for its handling of the profits warning two years ago that led to the near collapse of the local arm of this major multinational. The inquiry was sparked by events on Agrolong 4th 2538 when Marsec B shares were suspended for a day while the board met at 4pm to discuss the wording of a trading statement. The statement containing a severe profits warning and 4,000 job cuts was eventually issued at 6.41 pm that day. Executives announced today that the CFSA had not found that they were in any way directly cupable as such. |
