MEMO FROM: Senior Executive Karlssen (Stellar Telecommunications Corporation) TO: Commander Naval Task Force COPY TO : STC Corporate Headquarters, New Luna. Report on Incident on 116AL HSTS ------------------------------------------ Following concerns outlined by the colonial authorities on 116AL station that hostile ships were operating in the system, the Imperial Navy arrived at our station with the expressed aim of defending the station against possible hostile action. Contrary to my clear protestations about the effect on the operation efficiency of the station, the Marine Commander insisted in quite aggressive terms that the station's spin be removed, the outer emergency hatches be blown out (representing a significant credit value) and the station depressurised. My personnel, whilst obviously versed in basic emergency safety procedures were forced to stop work for several hours to suit up while the Marines conducted an entirely spurious boarding action to 'capture' my station. In terms of disruption to the functioning of the station and generally reducing the morale of staff, I have to say this was an entirely unnecessary 'show of strength'. The zero-g conditions forced by the marines were uncomfortable, and again affected the proper functioning of the station. Once aboard, the Marines effectively took over - Major Howland being really quite rude at times. Once Major Howland was injured and out of action, I have to say that your Major Rutherford was a good deal more understanding. I understand we were attacked by some sort of hostile robot, but it turned out that apart from considerable physical damage and the loss of quite large quantities of station's stores (which will form the basis of a separate insurance claim), the Marines were able, with the help of Station Security, the defeat the incursion. It is to be regretted that a number of station personel were killed, since this will result in considerable compensation payments to their families, and had the Marines been on the ball this would never have happened. The Corporation will no doubt be claiming the cost of this from the Imperial Colonial government. I understand that you ordered the station evacuated. Clearly this is unnecessary and I formally protest at the abandonment of an installation of significant credit value. Especially so, since the station was defended once before and presumably the Marines could defend it against subsequent attacks. The Corporation will, of course be claiming for loss of earnings from the Imperial Colonial Government. Signed: Hans Karlssen, SE STC Aboard ESS Agamemnon. 3197.252
